About Us

 Dr. Kara (Chappell) Amstutz

Looking for a Springfield veterinarian?

Hello! I'm Dr. Kara (Chappell) Amstutz.  A Springfield native,  and a Parkview H. S.  graduate, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry at Missouri State University. I graduated from University of Missouri Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000.

After working as an associate vet for nearly two years, I wanted to open my own practice. In 2002 I opened Homeward Bound Mobile Veterinary Clinic with my husband and practice manager, Dwight. I enjoyed this house call practice very much, but was limited on what I could do for patients.

In June 2004, we opened the full service Hometown Veterinary Hospital, and it was a pleasure to become one of the vets in Springfield, MO with a permanent office. The practice has grown over the years; I am very proud to have helped so many people and pets.

I have many special interests in veterinary medicine and am currently working on attaining special certifications in pain management. I also enjoy dermatology, dentistry, surgery and internal medicine.

In time away from the practice, I'm known only as “Mom” to our four very active kids. I play taxi driver, coach, art director, and overall operations manager for the Amstutz family. The family also has one dog and three cats.

After graduating from Republic High in 1987, I attended SMSU for my BS degree in biology, with a minor in psychology. In 1996 I received my DMV degree from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine.

With 20 years experience as a Springfield veterinarian, my special interests are internal medicine, geriatric medicine, dermatology and preventative care. I am very excited to now be able to grow and provide even more patient care in the areas of pain management and rehab with Dr. Kara.

I am married, and mom to four amazing boys. We enjoy running, kayaking and all things outdoors and sports. Our furry family consists of one Puggle and six (yes six, please don't judge me) cats.  I look forward to meeting you and caring for your pets/family members!
